CHAPTER & ALUMNI NEWS
![]() Cannon Diehl ’23 Rush Chairman 2025 | “I am honored to be the 2025 Rush Chairman of our renowned Delta Lambda Chapter. Every semester, we pledge a new class of young men who uphold our four cornerstones of Scholars, Leaders, Athletes, and Gentlemen. Members of each new pledge class are to strive for greatness every day, and to become men who are well known and admired. Our mission is to turn these men into leaders within our Chapter, on campus and in Greek life, and to also prepare them for leadership in life beyond college years.
|
It has been well established at Delta Lambda that we base our rush primarily on personal contact. Unlike many other fraternities, we strive to extend as many as one third of our fall bids in the summer. This gives us the lead in locking down potential blue-chip recruits ahead of our traditional rivals.
Following the lead of Rush Chairmen before me, I have assembled a strong group of Rush Captains, as well as a cadre of Junior Captains, all of whom will be assisting me at every step along the way.
We have already begun the search for our next class. I am fully confident in myself and my Captains that we will uphold the greatness of our beloved Chapter. If you have a relative or connection to a young man you believe worthy to be a Pike, please reach out directly to me.

Editor’s Note: Rush among Florida State’s 24 IFC fraternities is intensely competitive. If you would like to encourage Rush Chairman Cannon Diehl and support his teams, please make a summer rush contribution through The Old Guard.

![]() Jim Riscigno ‘65 | Jim Riscigno ’65 has been one of the most familiar and names and faces among Florida State alumni for many decades. He held the position of Executive Vice President at ClubCorp and was instrumental in opening the University Center Club here overlooking Doak Campbell Stadium. Jim is the ‘Executive in Residence’ at the College of Business and the Dedman School of Hospitality. He has been an active Delta Lambda since pledging in 1965. |
Bob Tunkel ’66, Chairman of the historic 2021 ‘Pikes of the 60s’ Reunion, writes, “Jim has enjoyed event planning throughout his long and distinguished career…We are very fortunate to have recruited him as Chairman, and I know he can count on all of our support. He is really looking forward to the fall, and to making this next reunion event memorable.”
Bob adds, “Anyone not receiving related ‘Pikes of the 60s’ emails, please contact me at [email protected]
Dave Frew ’67 writes, “Hello Brothers. At 79, I am keeping as active as possible. With losing so many of our beloved Brothers it makes me realize life is short. International travel is a big part of my life. Just returned from a couple of weeks in Switzerland and unfortunately realized that I am booked on a 2-week Rhine River cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam in November, over the same dates as the upcoming fall gathering. I am very disappointed as I would love to see all of you. I’ll definitely miss catching up with everyone. Wishing you all a great time together—raise a glass for me, and I look forward to the next one! Phi Phi K A

![]() Renowned California-based Food Critic Khuong Phan ’01 has earned bylines in GQ and Esquire magazines. Here, with wife Shannon and son Felix (Delta Lambda ’37?). | Khuong writes, “I spent most of my career in food, drink and travel public relations, working with great people in great places…New York and L.A., Michelin Guide, James Beard, Food Network, Top Chef, Chef’s Table…From being born in a war refugee camp, to being paid to travel the world, eating exotic foods, swigging cocktails and drinking champagne, it’s a pretty crazy American Dream story, Brother! Phi Phi.” In California, Khuong occasionally sees fellow re-Founder Josh Braddock ’01 who lives in San Diego. |
Thirty-Five Years Ago, Bob Ward ’67 Set Universal on Track to Overtake Disney

This Spring, 1990 issue of Delta Lambda’s newsletter (then called The Columns) spotlighted a profile in The Orlando Sentinel featuring Bob Ward ‘67. When Universal opened on June 7th, 1990, Bob Ward was hailed as the genius behind the design.
The May 25th 2025 Wall Street Journal calls Universal’s $7 billion investment “the theme park of the future….It has made Disney’s Junge Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean look like museum pieces.”
![]() Bob writes, “[in 1986] We did a multi-city video broadcast Orlando, LA, NYC and London. I walked around the model and told stories...” | In a career of more than 50 years, Bob has designed theme parks all over the world, from China to Saudi Arabia. The International Themed Entertainment and Experience Design Industry awarded Bob the internationally prestigious THEA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. Bob was Captain of the Seminole freshman track team and a pledge class officer. In Orlando, he and his pal Mike Wolford ’67 could be counted on to entertain officials from Seminole Boosters as well as faculty from the FSU College of Fine Arts. Bob has always been an active Pike alumnus, loyal to Delta Lambda. |

J.L. Milton ’62 writes, “Six Delta Lambda Pike Brothers of the mid 60s era having dinner together last week in St. Pete.”
David Lyons ’65 and Jeanne Lyons, J.L. Milton ’62, Beth Cooke and Frank Cooke ’65, John Stoner ’64, Jack McMullen ’64, Van Williams ’64.

Gary Prescott ’72 writes, “It took months to make it happen, but it was great catching up with each family and learning about their latest developments and travels.”

Knowing Night Owl as we do, this picture looks about right. Alan Winslette ’77 with his son Cody (Delta Lambda ’33?) somewhere in the jungles of Costa Rica.
Jimmy Keen ’73 writes, “While at Grand Reunion in March, I pointed out to Alan that his TV had been removed from his Fireman’s Lounge along with the other huge TV he had donated to Sembler Hall (Brent Sembler ’77). He grabbed three or 4 young Brothers in the courtyard, declaring them “laborers”, and they left on a very expensive shopping spree. They returned with two TVs, one for his Fireman’s’ Lounge, another huge TV for Sembler Hall plus two gas grills. I spoke to several Brothers a few days ago, and they were elated with Alan’s contributions.”

![]() Joe Duff Anderson ‘79 | Jesse Vance ’80 was first to send the sad news that Joe Duff Anderson entered Chapter Eternal on May 16th. His obituary notes: “He was a sixth-generation Floridian, descended from among the earliest settlers of Monticello and Jefferson County. After graduating from Aucilla Christian Academy, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.” |

I hate to hear this.”…Roy McDonald ’79 “So very sorry to hear. Joe Duff was a great friend and Brother.”…Mark Gambill ‘81 “My condolences to the family.”…Tim Sheridan ’79 “Definitely miss Joe Duff’s character!”…Frank Hoover ’78 “Oh man! Big Joe was a great Brother and a good man. RIP Joe.”…Griff Siegel ’78 “Joe Duff was definitely one of a kind. So many funny stories come to mind. If I didn’t personally know him, I’d say he was a fictional character! Great guy, big heart, loved Delta Lambda. A true Phi Phi Brother. RIP.”…Craig Chown ‘81 “Condolences. Very sad. Prayers.”…Mickey Fernandez ’77 “Sad to hear. He was one of a kind. A huge heart. He’s up there in Chapter Eternal now with Don Kyle ’77 laughing at all the stories re him and Ferd Iznaga ’77 when we all lived up in the penthouse. May he Rest in Peace.”
