We are grateful for the generosity as well as the stature of alumni who have responded in September.
Thank you to Ken Marks ’80 for his $1,000 check to The Old Guard! That was put to good use this summer in rush, which resulted in the largest fall pledge class in Delta Lambda history. [email protected] Ken was a regional director of the 2002 Capital Campaign that resulted in the construction of our mansion. For his leadership and personal generosity, the grand entrance is named the O. Ken Marks, Jr. Foyer. Ken’s brother Michael Marks ’87 was initiated and then was a member of The Firemen.
We are also most grateful to Bob Ward ’67 for his $200 gift to The Old Guard. Bob designed Universal Studios for their opening back in 1990. Since then ,he has become an internationally renowned designer and builder of destination entertainment, theme parks and resorts worldwide. [email protected]
We are especially grateful to Phil Doumar ’09 for his renewal of his annual $100 Old Guard contribution. [email protected] Phil started for the Seminoles at long snapper for four years, and as Delta Lambda Rush Chairman he recruited many of the eleven Pike varsity football players who led the Seminoles to the 2013 National Championship in the Rose Bowl. Phil was also named Delta Gamma Sorority Anchor Man in 2013.

CHAPTER NEWS
Fall rush saw Delta Lambda accept a class of 85 pledges. While large, and may be the largest on campus, that number is in line with the other big fraternities here. Last spring’s Pike graduating senior class numbered 77 Brothers. All credit this summer and fall goes to the leadership of Rush Chairman Cannon Deihl ‘24, to his Rush Captains, and to SMC Owen Murtagh ’22 and all the other Collared Officers.
Delta Lambda alumnus Jordan Travis ’22 is joining FSU’s NIL organization Battle’s End as a Brand Ambassador. Starting Quarterback Tommy Castellano is a pledge. Brock Glenn ‘24 is Castellano’s back-up and has played well. Sophomore Place Kicker Jake Weinberg ’24 hasn’t missed a shot yet. He replaces All-American Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald ‘19 Ryan is on the Carolina Panthers roster. Jake Weinberg trained with and received advice from All-American, and 2013 Lou Groza Award winner, Roberto Aguayo ’12.
Pikes continue to dominate the Seminole baseball team. New pledges include Brody DeLamielleure, Cal Fisher, Gabe Fraser, Brayden Dowd, Presley Woodson. SMC Murtagh says, “All the varsity baseball pledges are already super involved in the Chapter.
The Chapter hosted a wonderful ‘Parents Weekend’ tailgate at the mansion the afternoon of the Kent State game.

11th Annual YTM Golf Tournament
Many thanks to Phil Doumar ’09 for this photo of the 11th Annual YTM (“You’re the Man”) golf tournament. Once a Pike, Always a Pike.

Sometime in the 1980s, Pike Headquarters wanted to create a national rush flyer with a dynamic photo of an iconic Pike athlete. They chose the classic Intramural photo of Delta Lambda’s Pike quarterback and rush chairman Jim Smalley ’73. Smalley family roots run deep in Delta Lambda. Jim’s brothers Joe Smalley ’75 and David Smalley ’79, as well as Jim’s grandson Gavin Smalley ’23 are all Pikes. David Smalley was an All-Conference pitcher in 1983 and played 5 years of professional baseball.
![]() Young Pike Stars on the Path to Greatness | Young alumni, former Student Body Treasurer Omar Pimentel ‘16 and past Student Body President Kyle Hill ‘16 are already building impressive records of achievement. They reunited in Tallahassee for coffee before the Alabama game. Kyle graduated from University of Georgia Law School, and clerked for five years for the Hon. John Couriel, 90th Justice of the Florida Supreme Court. Kyle is back in Tallahassee now for a year, studying for a career in commercial litigation. We hope to involve Kyle in local alumni activities. |
Omar is already a star. He works for NASA in national security, and reports directly to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Omar is NASA’s “Senior Space Policy Advisor”. He is tasked with ensuring technology for space defense, with emphasis on the new missile defense shield called Golden Dome.

Who Are These Brothers?
It appeared anonymously sometime this summer: a large, framed display of Pi Kappa Alpha memorabilia, including a white pledge pin and a jeweled badge embedded into the framing matte. Pi Kappa Alpha’s pledge pins were white until the late 1960s when the color was changed to garnet. We do not know the name of the Pike alumnus who created this wonderful and valuable display. Just know that it is now secured in the locked Russell Legends Room.
The flawless garnet Dodge 4x4 with the PKA73 tag was discovered in the parking lot of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Don’t know to whom it belongs, but no doubt he is a Delta Lambda Pike.

Ad Astra
![]() Saturday, 28 June, 2025 | Randy Parker ’70 wrote, “Well Brothers, our good Brother Peter Whiteside Burnett ’68 is resting peacefully next to his brother Russell Gordon Burnett ’65 and their dad. It is a rainy, cool day in Maine. The cemetery is beautiful; I’ve included some pictures. There was a reception afterward, and Pete’s sweetheart wife Janet hosted. Phi Phi to you all, and cherish the days ahead. Hopefully there will be many.” |
Those of us who were with Russ Burnett ’65 and Pete Burnett ’68 in Chapter Days knew them to be joyful, good fellows and active Pikes, contributing much to the flavor and strength of the Fraternity. Their smiles, their leadership, their love of friendship must surely still exist in Chapter Eternal. To lose their friendship forever would be unbearable.
Six decades ago, our Chapter began to realize the advantage of recruiting legacies into the Brotherhood. The purpose was to strengthen Delta Lambda’s blood ties and further enhance the Fraternal Bonds. We have initiated more siblings than we can name, including more than a dozen sets of identical twins. Now we can identify around 250 Legacy Dads, legacy sons and legacy grandsons who are Pikes.
The Burnett brothers were an uplifting presence in our lives and in our Fraternity. They were loved.
